Specifications

Apart from enhancing aesthetic appearance and helping in assimilation into green surroundings, the greening of the roof helps to protect the rooftop waterproofing as well as the roof skin itself from extreme UV exposure. Ambient temperature is considerably reduced and the interior of the building kept cool, even though its exterior faces the full brunt of the sun. The restaurant is consequently able to save on energy consumption through lower air-conditioning requirements and to, also at the same time, mitigate Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE).

VersiDrain® 25P water retention and drainage trays (the principal component of Elmich Green Roof) installed over the concrete mushroom-shaped roof of the restaurant facilitate efficient drainage of excess water and allow water and soluble nutrients stored in the cells to be returned, via evaporation and capillary action, to the primarily inorganic planting medium during dry periods. This effectively reduces irrigation frequency and maintains healthy plant growth. The resultant green roof blends seamlessly into the green environment of the Park.

Water Feature

To provide stable 900 mm high supports for pre-cast concrete slabs that form part of a water feature.

Solution

VersiJack supports were mechanically anchored into the concrete slab and then adjusted either up or down to to the correct support height. Large pre-cast concrete slabs were then positioned onto the VersiJack units. VersiJack units are providing effective support for the concrete slabs, were more cost effective than brick piers and unlike metal supports, do not rust.

The Sentosa Boardwalk

Running parallel to the Sentosa Gateway, spanning the narrow strait between the mainland and Sentosa, linking the waterfront promenade at Vivocity to the arrival plaza of Resorts World Sentosa, the 620-metre Sentosa Boardwalk is South-East Asia’s largest thematic walkway.

Built at a cost of S$70 million, the boardwalk covers an area of approximately 16,500 square metres and ranges from 25 to 40 metres in width, with about half of the total area consisting of timber decking.

eneath the more than 8,000 square metres of decking is over 15,000 VersiJack® S height and slope-adjustable pedestals, supporting the composite timber panels to a height of more than 500 mm. This new generation pedestal for paver and decking bearer support, designed and supplied by Elmich Pty Ltd, provided a cost-effective, eco-friendly and sustainable way to construct the timber-deck of the boardwalk.

VersiJack® S is engineered to reduce material, construction and project lifecycle costs, especially when used to support paver or decking heights of 500 mm and above. It offers a choice of three pedestal tops (43, 84 and 164 mm) and two pedestal bases (74 and 117 mm), which in combination with a 245 – 265 mm extender, enables support heights of above 500 mm using only three main component parts on each pedestal. The new generation pedestal design also has greater stability and better compressive strength.

VersiJack® S eliminates need for or use of brick, concrete or metal piers for installation of the decking. It is quick and easy to install and being manufactured of recycled materials, it is also environmental friendly. The pedestal has a wide and stable base, which unlike brick and metal piers, will not penetrate and compromise the integrity of waterproofing membranes. For added stability, it can also be locked at desired heights by fastening a self-tapping screw along its side for each extension used.

Solution

VersiJack telescopic supports were positioned directly onto the waterproofing membrane, adjusted to the required height and the corners of large pavers were positioned in place. VersiJack provides stable support for heavy weight pavers, allow ready access to the waterproofing membrane and eliminate the possibility of efflorescence and algae associated with pavers embedded in sand and sand/cement screeds.

Solution

VersiJack is providing a stable support structure for the large timber deck area at this location. VersiJack supports were adjusted to account for the fall in the slab and then placed directly onto the waterproofing membrane. Timber joists were screwed into the VersiJack batten supports and the batten supports were screwed onto the VersiJack units which were then adjusted either up or down to account for any warping of the timber. Locking rings on each unit were then screwed down to ensure maximum stability. Joists were anchored into the wall edges to ensure stability of the decking. Each VersiJack unit required only three minutes to install, offering considerable savings over brick and metal piers. VersiJack units are not mechanically fastened and unlike brick piers do not penetrate or damage waterproofing membranes and unlike metal supports, do not rust.

Solution

VersiPave GP units in conjunction with VersiPave 10 and 30mm Extenders were used to support 600 x 300 x 30mm pavers. 4mm spacers on the VersiPave GP units allow rainwater to flow between pavers and move to drainage outlets. VersiPave GP eliminate the use and weight of heavy wet sand screeds, allow ready access to waterproofing membranes and the void under the pavers generates an insulation barrier, resulting in energy savings.
